The Book "Kathy"

I have seen, once in a rare while, the limited edition of 500 (I think) book "Kathy" for auction on eBay. It was, as I understand it, a collection of her brother's photos of her, all the way from childhood, and some little bit of writing, too. I think she signed it and did an intro or something, too, but am not sure, as I have never seen the book myself, except for some photos long ago.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has actually seen it or read it. If not, I was thinking that one day, I might try to acquire it, but not with the usual idea of collecting and keeping it, as much as of sharing it by reselling it at cost to people who agree to also resell it (if only to resell it back to me so I can continue to share it out).

Just a thought. I understand the desire to collect, my own KT collection is quite large, but some things simply should be shared I think, too...

Is it just me, or does this book make anybody else feel "icky?" I like Kate Bush as much as the next guy but her brother appeared to be absolutely FASCINATED by her as a child. I can't imagine that it got to "Lewis Carroll" levels or anything but yeeeeesh....

He is a professional photographer. It was his 'thing' growing up as much as music was hers. That's all I chalk it up to.

I confess the thought crossed my mind at one time, but not due to the photos. It was because of the lyrics to a song on Kick Inside where she sings a song that sounds like it is about her brother - L'Amour Looks Something Like You, I think. I got the impression that, like you said, there may have been something there that was affectionate, but she drew a line at some point.

I guess it did creep me out a little, (the song, not the photos). I imagine he took pictures of a lot more than kate, but was he really going to be able to market his studies of the leaves of English trees, etc? When you have one ticket, you cash it.

Hmmm...was just doing a wiki search to try and verify I gave the title to the right song (I keep rememering her saying something about 'under the covers' and loosing the arrow). I couldn't verify it, but I ran across an interesting tidbit about the title song to The Kick Inside :

"the title song is based on the ballad of Lizzie Wan, the story of a girl who kills herself after being impregnated by her brother."

        Strange.

Just found the online version of this book, properly spelled "Cathy". It is worth a look and a scan through each of the pages because there is some text with the photos. As to the lyrical references that I mentioned, she had more than one brother, so who is to say if anything's there which brother it referred to. The text of Cathy doesnt seem prurient in any way, and he repeatedly refers to photographic techniques and jargon... I believe thats all there was to it. What an odd topic; the topic itself has an icky feel, doesn't it?

Thanks for the link Mich :>) I really enjoyed that.

I have to say though, from a woman's perspective, I feel absolutely nothing 'sinister' in these piccies. It is all definately innocent in my view. It's just so obvious by her face that she's relaxed and confident. As for Paddy, he was using his sister as his photographic subject, he's not an idiot, if Kate was your sister and you a photographer, wouldn't you do the same? Kate writes about alot of taboo issues, this doesn't mean she's lived them all!!! LOL

I had a friend who wrote a parody to that song called 'Louis L'Amour Looks Something Like You." I wish I could remember the lyrics.
