Sexual Healing

topic posted Thu, June 1, 2006 - 6:24 AM by  Maxwell
I just picked up the 7" of "King of the Mountain" yesterday and was very pleased to see this cover on the B-Side, as the only version I'd heard of it previously sounded like it had been recorded from the radio and dubbed three times.

I'm under the impression that this is an older recording, and I don't see a year anywhere on the record. Does anyone know when it was recorded?

It was recorded in the late 80s and was originally played at a UK Kate Bush convention. I don't remember the specifics but Kate either showed up by surprise and played a tape of the song for everybody, or a representative showed up for Kate and said that although she couldn't make it, she'd recorded a song for the occasion. I'm sure the actual story is hiding on the Internet somewhere. The reason the boot recordings of this sounded so crappy is because the tape that got passed around was from a cassette made by somebody in the listening audience, who was taping the song as it played.

It sounds like its from the 'THOL' era. I'll do a bit of research... Heaven knows why she put it on the KOTM CD single! (I really don't like it!) - Sorry. Love Kate but 'hate the song'.

What it means is, unlike her other albums, she didn't record anything that got left off the Aerial album for extras. With HOL and SW, there was a glut of extra songs and mixes, etc.

Tom.. So assuming that then.. are you saying 'If (and that's a big 'IF') Kate releases another track off Aerial' then and bonus tracks on the CD single' won't be part of the recordings during the 'Aerial' project?

Much Respect for you comment Tom!

Well, I don't know for sure, but one would think if she had anything extra, they would have released that instead of a 17-year-old recording.

And "Aerial" IS a double CD. If Kate still has a kitchen sink from this project I'd be surprised.

From the way that I am now thinking.... 'Aerial' was only a double album because Kate wanted an 'A & B side'. If you buy it on Vinyl.... it just doesn't work!!!... That's 4 sides... make's everything patchy!

Yes, but has anyone compared the vinly to the CD to see if the recording sounds better? Maybe I should ask, is the vinyl simply a digital recording on vinyl, or is it an analog recording? I am not techy enough to say what I am asking exactly right, but maybe one of you is...

Its like the post someone made about how superior the sound quality is on the vinyl of HoL compared the original CD (most of her early CDs were like that)...but I dont know if that difference exists any more, and wondered if the gap is still there?
